i must not fear and i will not bow, | "Green..."He murmured to himself, dark blue eyes cast down at his feet in deep thought. The evening had been a warm one - in the dead of summer that was a delight for him - so he had settled on taking his evening stroll through the park. It was about 6:45 and the sun was hanging lo in the sky sending a wash of color over the small specks of clouds that hung in the air. Suro lifted his head up watching a bird twitter as it approached another, a mating call perhaps? That thought only brought him back to what he had just experienced. He had no intentions of entering the small tent the fortune teller called home but it seemed she had other plans. The old woman had called to him, saying she saw something very important in his future. The rest was gibberish, he could barely make out the one word he did understand in her muttering. Green. He tried to ask what this meant but she sent him away as another customer came to her door. Stuffing his hands into the pockets of his denim pants he sighed, he was burning with questions and he couldn't even ask them. What did the gypsy mean? What had she even said? What was so damned important about the color green? Being superstitious had it's heavy downfalls, he'd learned that many years ago, and now he kept an eye out for anything that even remotely had anything to do with the color green. The officer shook his head so suddenly and roughly that his glasses just about fell off his face, no he was here to relax, it was his day off and he needed to unwind. Taking his glasses off the end of his nose he fogged them with his breath before wiping them off with the hem of his dull grey t-shirt, I need to do laundry he noted in his head before pushing the thin frames back over his eyes. Hands back in his pockets he looked up watching people of all shades and sizes that were visiting the park. A handful of couples - to which he felt a twinge of jealousy-, a jogger with large headphones draped across the top of his head, and a mother playing with her children on the swing set. Suro smiled, it was beautiful evening that much was certain at least. BETTINA LAURENTIM❤DI |

something Blue Superstitious was never a word she used to describe herself. Well, she kept a four-leafed clover in her purse for years, but that was it. No need to tell that when she left the weird old woman and her tent, she didn't thought anything about what she told her. What could she think about those few words, anyway? They didn't make any sense, not to her at least.
The park was a place she loved as much as she dreaded it. The reason? Those darned birds, as always. Many of them were really pretty for sure, but far from her ; or even better, only on the glossy paper of nature magazines. Luckily, there was no bird around, making her walk absolutely enjoyable.
Adjusting again the sleeve of her white sundress -today's look was all white, so her heels and purse were too- she let a faint sigh escape. No matter how hard she tried, she kept coming back too the words said to her earlier. No needs to say that she felt stupid, even more so when her eyes fell on a blue haired guy. That was a bit too much of a coincidence for her, honestly.
Talking to him, a total stranger, was an option. An option probably leading to him thinking she was some weird girl talking to anyone crossing her path because she felt lonely. Well, he wouldn't be totally wrong, but that was beside the point.
"Excuse me..?" She suddenly felt a bit stupid, playing with a lock of green hair hanging from her shoulder, and looking at him like that. And damn he was so tall she felt even more shorter. "Are you looking for someone?"
Best. Introduction. Ever. Not weird at all. Nope, definitely not.

i must not fear and i will not bow, | 'Excuse me'
The soft voice made Suro stop, he hadn't expected anyone to approach him this evening. Slowly he turned and his eyes widened slightly taking her in. The woman who approached him was short, much shorter than he was, wearing pure white with bright green hair. Green...this meant something, it had to. For a moment he chewed on his words, trying to think of how to respond. Lord he was terrible at small talk. Finally with a swallowed he turned fully to face her rubbing the back of his head.
"Uh, no no, just...taking a walk through the park."
Obviously, and he was sure that was why she was here too. He glanced up at her again, taking in all her features quickly. She was pretty...really pretty, that just made him even more paranoid than before. He cleared his throat fixing his glasses in a nervous gesture. "...Nice evening..." That went well, wasn't that supposed to be a question? Suro was so ungodly awkward, and quiet. Suro glanced down at his feet for a long moment, thinking back to what the gypsy lady had told him. Green...
This was some sort of crazy coincidence, was this woman part of his future? |

something Blue He didn't look scared or bothered by that weird girl with green hair talking to him out of nowhere. Which was good, wasn't it? Well, Betty wasn't that sure, and part of her wished he told her to go away, because now they were stuck with each other awkwardness.
"Oh. Yes, a walk. Obviously." Riiight. She was blushing, her cheeks turning bright red, which was more than noticeable with her pale complexion. And each time she looked at him, it was even worse : that man was cute. Like, really cute. So much taller than her but definitely nice to look at. "Really nice, yeah." While he was looking at his feet, the silence between them growing more and more embarrassing, she crossed her arms behind her back, looking at the sky. She had to find something to say, anything. Since he probably already thought she was weird, she had nothing to lose. "Actually, I was searching for someone, and... I thought it was you." A light chuckle escaped her lips, before she lifted her eyes towards his. "I'm sorry, that's a bit weird. An old woman told me about a blue haired guy, and here I am, bothering a total stranger." Her cheeks still flushed red, a strand of green hair wrapped around her finger, she shook her head, feeling so foolish.
"I should probably go." But she didn't move, at all. Instead, she glanced up at him, her golden brown eyes studying his features once more.

i must not fear and i will not bow, | The more she blushed the more he found her beautiful, the stained red across porcelain skin. Suro fixed his glasses as he looked to her again just in time to hear her say she was looking for someone, and that it might be him. Shock - rather than confusion - came to his face as she talked about an old woman and how she had talked about a man in blue. Katsuro turned to fully face her. "This old woman, she was in a purple tent yes? I think I had the same encounter, and she told me something about the color...green." Suro's cheeks flushed slightly as he spoke, this was too crazy to be some sort of coincidence. Fate had something to do with this, he just wasn't sure how big of role this woman had to play in his life. He cleared his throat, desperately trying not to be as awkward as he was.
"I'm sorry, I haven't even introduced myself yet. My name is Hamasaki Katsuro, but...if you like, you may call me Suro." He usually saved the nickname for people he was more familiar with but he felt comfortable enough with this stranger to let her call him that if she liked. Oh, he should shake her hand too shouldn't he? He quickly held his hand out to her, offering a polite if not nervous smile. "Pleasure to meet you."
His voice squeaked a little as he said that, making him wither inside from sheer embarrassment. That was not a flattering sound for sure. "And it's no bother at all...would you, care to join me?" He motioned down the path cutting through the park with a sweeping gesture of his hand. Now he was inviting her to join him on his walk, his paranoia began to bloom. What if she thought that was weird? What if he scared her off just now? Always one to sweat the small stuff. |

something Blue "You met her too, then." Stating the obvious, as always. But she needed to talk, it was easier to ignore the heat of her cheeks and the sheer surprise she felt at that moment. Betty didn't believed in fate or whatever of that sort. That situation, their meeting, it was too much of a coincidence ; as if they had to meet. And she didn't know what to think about it.
His voice made her once more raise her gaze to his, a faint, if not a bit embarrassed, smile on her lips. And when he introduced himself to her, the green haired girl bowed her head a bit, before shaking gently his hand. "The pleasure is mine, Suro. I'm Bettina Laurenti. But Betty is more than fine." Unlike him, she wasn't really nervous. Endlessly blushing and embarrassed, yes. Nervous? Not so much. Which was probably why she looked a bit more at ease than him ; just a bit. "I'd like it very much."
Her arms crossed behind her back, she walked right next to him ; looking down at her feet, or up at the sky, Betty didn't knew what to say. Small talk was perhaps enough. And what if he didn't like that? "Do you think we had to meet? I mean, what that old woman told us was weird, and. Yeah, I still don't know what to think."

i must not fear and i will not bow, | Betty, that was certainly not a common name around these parts. Unique, he liked that, a lot. As they walked he glanced to her, rubbing his hands together slightly as she asked him his opinions on their sudden meeting. Was it meant to happen or was it some sort of out-of-this-world coincidence? "Maybe we were meant to meet? Then again, I'm a superstitious person like that." He put his hands in his pockets ad he spoke his fingers felt a little cold at the moment. They walked on in silence for a moment, and he was just about to ask her something - which would probably have ended up being a stupid question knowing him - when someone quickly ran in-between them nearly knocking Suro off his feet.
The man dressed in black took off running, a white purse in his hands. Wait. Suro looked at Betty, seeing her bag was now gone. A different side of him came around, the officer that had been so fiercely trained into him. "HEY!" He shouted taking off after the man in black and gaining ground on him quickly. The thief tried to loose him but Suro was quick to leap and grab the man around his middle, sending the two sprawling onto the grass. The struggle was short and Suro quickly had his foot planted firmly on the man's arm, holding it hard again the back of his neck. The thief spit curse after curse at him before Katsuro reached into his pocket and pulled out what looked like his wallet, flipping it open to show the aggressor a shiny badge instead.
"You picked the wrong guy buddy." He quickly grabbed his phone and called his partner, the fellow officer there within minutes to apprehend the perpetrator. Suro sighed walking back over to Betty and handed her the bag. "Everything is still in there, are you hurt at all?" He asked, genuinely concerned for the company he was keeping in this moment in time. He waved to his partner as he drove off, he'd have to buy the man lunch in thanks for helping him on such short notice. |

something Blue Maybe we were meant to meet. Part of her, the hopeless romantic who always ended heartbroken, liked the sound of that. But the other part didn't knew what to think. After all, he was a stranger, and thinking about fate or anything like that was just foolish.
Walking without a word after that, she suddenly felt pushed aside, and before she could say anything, her purse was missing. Stunned, Betty didn't immediately react, only staring at the fleeing thief with a shocked look. Needless to say, she stood even more motionless when Suro started to chase the guy in black. He was fast, and.. a cop. Well, that was unexpected. Mostly because the cop she knew were for the most part real douchebags. Him, on the other hand, looked so sweet and nice that it was almost troubling.
Her purse back in her hand, the girl quickly looked inside : lipstick, cellphone, candies, wallet and tissues. Everything seemed there, and she sighed in relief. "Everything seems okay. And I'm fine, don't worry. Thank you, Suro." His concern was touching, honestly, and quickly brought a smile on her lips. Then she saw a bit of grass in his hair, probably there following his earlier struggle with the thief. So, she raised her hand -her height not helping at all- and removed it. That's when she suddenly felt like she had to explain herself, blushing once more. "You had grass in you hair and I thought that... Well. You're good now." She discreetly cleared her throat, looking away.
"So, you're a cop? I would have never guessed. Since when?" She was curious, as always. And it was better than blushing for no reason, wasn't it?

i must not fear and i will not bow, | Katsuro was relived to hear that she was unharmed, he always hated seeing the innocent get hurt because of one selfish person's actions. He smiled softly as she thanked him, he always thought that was the best part of his job. "You're welcome." He was surprised as she reached upward toward him plucking a blade of grass from his hair. He truly noticed the difference in their height now, he was about to crouch a little to help her.
"Thank you, it would have taken me hours to find that and get it out myself." He chuckled, noticing a few grass smudges on his pants and shirt. NOW he really needed to do laundry. With the excitement out of the way Katsuro felt...awkward again. He cleared his throat as he looked around cautiously, no sign of any other thieves or that one's friends. "Well, hopefully now we can continue our walk without any more thieves."
How long had he been a cop? Actually that was a good question. The years seemed to blur together for him, though he felt that was a good thing. Meant he enjoyed what he did so much that time was no matter. "I graduated the academy when I was 21, so about... Three years now." Still considered a rookie but a damn fine one in the words of the chief. Suro had truly proven he lived to protect and serve.
"Well, if we're talking about occupations, may I ask yours?" He was feeling a little more comfortable but in the back of his head he worried if that was too forward. He pleaded that it wasn't, Betty had something to do with his fate, he could feel it in the pit of his stomach. |

something Blue It seemed that the awkwardness was slowly fading for her. Her companion still looked nervous but honestly, she was starting to feel a little more comfortable with him. Which was a good thing, wasn't it? "At least, now I know that I'm safe with you." Betty winked at him with a slight chuckle, before looking up at the sky, waiting for his answer. It was funny how an unexpected meeting could turn to be that pleasing. With her -nonexistent- luck, she could've come across a really rude guy. Or worse.
"Oh. So you're only twenty-four? I pictured you a bit older than that." On the contrary, people always gave her two or three years less than her age ; probably because of her height, or her looks. Which was often funny, but a bit annoying at times. After all, being taken for a teenage didn't always have benefits. "I'm a writer." She stopped, frowning a bit. A writer, really? She sounded like her mother, which was quite unpleasant. S she quickly corrected herself, playing with a lock of green hair. "Well, not exactly a writer. I'm a professional blogger. I write about fashion, and makeup, mostly."
Betty felt a bit inadequate. He was a cop, someone you can admire. Her? A failed writer without any ambition. Yet, she loved her job, but she often felt a bit embarrassed when talking about her job with people more successful than her. And envious. Way too envious. "It's getting late. And a bit chilly" Time went faster than expected with him, but she didn't regret it. It was a really nice evening.

i must not fear and i will not bow, | Knowing she felt safe with him made Suro smile slightly, his confidence raising slightly. He walked at much more relaxed paces taking his steps leisurely and watching the clouds roll across the sky. Suro looked over to her when she spoke about her job. A blogger? He had never met someone in that profession before. "That sounds really interesting. What's it like?" His curiosity was genuine and clear as crystal in his voice. He wanted to know, he wanted to talk with her more.
It was getting late in the evening and the air was growing a little chilly. Damn if only he had a jacket of some sort he could give it to her to stay warm. He didn't want this evening to end just yet. Suro glanced across the road something catching his eye, a small coffee shop at the street corner. That would most definitely work. "Well, how about we get something warm to drink?" He motioned with his head toward the coffee shop.
"My treat." Suro wanted to know more about this woman, who she was, and possibly learn what their meeting had meant. That gypsy had seen something concerning her and he wanted to find out what. He doubted he could find her purple tent again even if he tried so he'd have to do the digging himself, luckily he wasn't adverse to getting his hands dirty. |

something Blue Suddenly, this unexpected meeting was starting to look like a date. That or she was thinking way too much, which was not unlike her. Date or not, he made her blush nonetheless, a slight smile on her lips. "That would be... really nice." Nodding, she then walked towards the coffee shop with him, silently at first. Oh, Bettina wanted to talk, but not too much, afraid that she would bore him.
The inside was nice, warm and calm. The green-haired girl sat by a window -her favorite spot- and soon a waitress came to take their order. "A cup of hot cocoa for me, please." And when they found themselves alone again, she caught herself glancing at him a bit too much. He was... really good-looking. And sweet.
"You were wondering what it was like to be a blogger, right?" She bit her lower lip, looking outside. "I write about the outfits I wear, pieces of clothing I really like. Or about makeup, mostly new products or ones sent to me by certain brands." The girl thanked the waitress, now looking at her beverage. "And you? Did you always wanted to be a cop?" She then took a sip of her cocoa, before finally adding, looking directly at him : "It's sometimes dangerous, isn't it?" She was worried about him. A almost complete stranger. So typical of her.

i must not fear and i will not bow, | He felt a brief joy make his heart jump as she agreed to accompany him to the coffee shop, thankful this evening wouldn't end quite yet. He walked alongside her as they crossed the street eyeing anyone who walked past them with careful suspicion. He didn't want her to be robbed twice in the same evening. Joining her at the table he smiled politely as a waitress came to take their order. "I'll have a coffee please, three cream." With a bubbly reply she left them to prepare their drinks, letting Betty explain her occupation. Sounds like something his mother would like, he might recommend her blog to her next time he visited. Did he always want to be a cop? Good question. "Not really when I was little, I didn't really have any goals besides 'sneaking a few more cookies behind my mother's back'." He chuckled thanking the waitress and taking a sip of his hot coffee. "I decided to join the academy shortly after entering high school, I decided I wanted to make a difference in this world no matter how infinitesimally small it may be."
Suro enjoyed what he did thoroughly, especially when it garnered results like it did. More and more criminals were getting off the street and facing trial because of him, the town was steadily becoming safer. Was it dangerous? That was an easy answer. Settling his cup back on the table he leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes as he spoke. "It can be very dangerous, there are some points where you can feel like you're really about to die. Having your mortality waved in your face like that is both terrifying and oddly thrilling. And at the end of the day when you get to come home and you helped make this town a safer place for future generations it's the most gratifying feeling in the world." Suro never really talked this much with someone he just met but he was very comfortable in her presence by now.
He sipped again at his coffee, feeling the caffeine beginning to seep into his blood stream. He was now more awake and alert then he was before. Suro never noticed the small cut on his hand from the scuffle with the mugger earlier, it was bleeding a little but he'd been through much worse. "I'm thankful every time I get to come home, just let the day fall away as I play with Rie." He meant to mumble that but it came out as a soft statement instead. Oh no, he needed to clarify quickly, she might think Rie was his girlfriend or something. "Rie being my cat." |
