Hide narrowed his eyes at Suro, giving him a look that said he was still annoyed, but he knew the man was joking. If it were anyone else though, they'd get a fist to the face. Suro was lucky they were friends. That being said, if he were god he would be benevolent to a select few that deserved it.
A mischievous grin forming on his face as he scoffed and thought about it more. "I'd let you live. You could be a hand servant. But a wealthy one." There were benefits at least. He'd given a mansion in the clouds somewhere, and a girlfriend that'd be Suro's ideal woman. At that thought he chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck.
The mention of cute girls made her turn his glance to his friend. "I thought the whole point of your shopping was to be the one to attract the girls." Hide got enough tail when he wanted it. He couldn't complain about his forever single status because, well, he wasn't particularly relationship material and most girls didn't want a guy that did the things he did. At least not the types of girls that would like Suro, who was far more stable and surely less controlling.
"Yea, someone for you not me. I'm not exactly relationship material. I was born to be a bachelor Suro. Besides, what's not to like about you? You have everything." Hide said, almost confidently, though partially in jest as well. It didn't hurt him to admit the truth in that respect. He might never get married, and after what happened to his parents that would probably be a good thing.
"Alright. Sounds good to me." Suro's couch was comfortable usually anyway. Having him around probably helped, but Hideo preferred 'sleepovers' to being home alone regardless. Even if it meant he wasn't sleeping in a bed. | ◀ MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS |

i must not fear and i will not bow, | A wealthy hand servant? Suro couldn't truly complain about that he supposed. Suro gave a light shrug as Hide brought up how the whole point was to get the girls to come to him. "Very valid point, though I'm sure some girl will come along that is as wild as you are." He pictured a girl with brightly colored hair, piercings, and tattooes abound, yeah that would be the kind of girl that could keep up with his friend. That was if he even wanted that kind of relationship. He had everything? Now that made him laugh.
"You can't have everything my friend, where would you put it all? You know I'm not a good people person, and I don't talk much until I get really comfortable with someone. Remember how long it took you to get more then a sentence out of me?" Almost a year, he was surprised Hide had that much patience with him when they were kids. Maybe it was because Suro usually helped get him out of trouble and even though he wasn't much of a talker he could listen to someone incredibly well. He remembered the many nights the two boys spent in his room, Suro on his bed and Hide on the floor, just staring up at the darkened ceiling and listening to the black haired boy talk.
"Ah, home sweet home." He muttered finally seeing his apartment building coming into sight around the corner. Rie would probably be sleeping on the arm of the couch again, that thing was covered in cat hair by now. Fishing into his pocket as they walked inside he grabbed his keys. "Want some coffee? Or would you rather just go straight to bed?" |

Hide scoffed at the thought of some girl, being anywhere near his personality. He didn't think he could handle anyone like himself, especially if it were a woman. Her could hear the amount of nagging and the like he'd receive, and it made him wince outwardly. Definitely not gonna happen, but at least it made Katsuro laugh.
"I'd put it in a giant house, of course. It didn't bother me, just made you more of a challenge." And he did like a challenge. Hide smiled at that, old memories, better ones, flooding in. Though Suro was more so taking care of him than the other way around, Hide didn't understand why he'd never made more friends that weren't as reckless and awful as he was. Then again, Hideo had a habit of scaring people away. He was a possessive character, what could he say?
"I think you'd be just fine so long as you manage to hold a conversation. I could help 'train' you on how to talk to girls but for some reason I don't think you'd appreciate that all too much." Shy little Katsuro, he seemed so much more naive in comparison to Hide, but that was his own fault. Hide flaunted himself when it suited him, Suro just wasn't like that. However, that didn't mean his reserved demeanor was a bad thing. Some girls really liked that trait in a man.
He appreciated Katsuro a lot for his personality. Even though it had taken him a lot to get the guy to talk all the initial fighting was worth it now. Hide couldn't picture letting anyone else behind his wall. Suro knew too much about him already. He looked up at the apartment building as it drew closer, his hands shoved into his pockets as a light breeze ruffled the ends of his hair.
"I could have some coffee." After the little walk, and all the talking, his buzz had died down. He was getting to that point where he just wanted to lay down, but coffee often didn't affect him the way it was supposed to. Just one warm cup could put him to sleep, rather than wake him up. He was weird that way.
"How's mom, by the way. She messaged you earlier right?"

i must not fear and i will not bow, | Train him? Katsuro appreciated the thought but he politely declined. Knowing Hide it would be painstakingly long and the results would probably make him look like an ass. Hide was his friend but lord did he have the wrong way of talking to women, well at least in Suro's opinion. For Hide it worked fine just looking for one night stands or simply doing his job as an escort, but Suro didn't want that. He wanted something serious, something that could possibly last until the end of their lives, he would find it he'd just have to push himself a little bit more.
Suro smiled as Hide asked about mom. "She's doing good, she went to the doctor yesterday and she said everything checks out. I'm going over next weekend to have dinner with her, you know you're more than welcome to come with me if you want." Suro's mother had taken Hide in like he was her own, watching after the little rascal and even verbally claiming him as her 'other son'. Katsuro unlocked the door, swinging it wide for his guest as they were welcomed with a soft mewl.
With a bright smile he knelt down and gently picked the small white kitten into his arms, scratching her behind her left ear. "There she is." The small kitten looked over at Hide curiously for a moment before batting at the air toward him with her paw three times. "See? Likes you already." He chuckled setting her down on the couch cushion with care. "Alright, I'll start some coffee." |

He spoke of Suro's mother as if she were his own, but he knew the distinction. Still, after she'd treated him like her son all these years, it just felt overly disrespectful to treat her like some stranger. Since growing up with Katsuro, he'd gotten in the habit of calling her his mother too. Maybe just out of habit.
Secretly he was worried about the older woman. He didn't like hearing anything that involved hospitals and the people he cared about. His mother died in the emergency room of a hospital, and in his view doctors didn't save as often as they failed. Money hogs. Hide didn't trust them.
"No, that'a alright. I have somewhere I need to be." Not giving hints to what it was, it was most certainly something Suro wouldn't approve of. He missed his friends mother quite a lot, but after he stopped visiting their house Hide had a difficult time going back just to say hi every now and then. He was insecure, about what she would think of him after all this time and he was still the same. Disappointing looks just weren't his thing.
As they'd walked inside the building, and made their way to Katsuro's room, Hide had looked down a the sound of a mewl at the door. Stepping inside with Katsuro he'd seen the ball of white before the man could pick her up, but only got a look at the things face once it noticed him. Hide gave it his usual flat stare, only to narrow his eyes as it batted the air in his direction.
"Tch, that's what you think. Looks to me like she was trying to take a swing." He replied, sounding serious but he was mostly just joking. Hide let his hands out of his pockets, and stretched out his arms above his head before walking slowly toward the man's couch.
"Why was mom at the hospital?" Alas Hideo couldn't stop his concern, and his curiosity because of it was nagging. Once he sat down and watched Katsuro, the little white ball of fur noticed him and decided to walk on over. When Hide felt a face rub against his thigh, he tried to ignore it, but then she hopped up onto his lap. It had been a while since he'd had a kitten as mentioned before, but now he was starting to remember what it was like. Annoying.
Hide balled his fist loosely, holding it out to her so she couldn't try and crawl up his chest. Rie didn't seem to care that it was in her way though, she pawed at his knuckles assuming he wanted to play, and tried to find a place where her teeth could hold onto as she gnawed on his thumb. It hurt, thanks to her sharp baby teeth, but it didn't bother Hide enough to pull his hand away. he had a higher pain tolerance than most.

i must not fear and i will not bow, | He felt a little disappointed when Hide said he had somewhere to be, he remembered when they used to sit down and eat together all the time when they were kids. But he let it go, there was no persuading Hide once he told you no. "Okay, but you know her door is always open to you." The older woman was always so kind and patient with him, Suro always admired that in his mother. He was quick to start brewing a pot of coffee but as he reached into a cupboard for mugs he paused. He knew Hide wouldn't like to hear this but he had to know. Katsuro set the mugs down on the counter, running his thumb over the rim of one before replying.
"She did have a scare, they thought she might have early colon cancer. But they did tests and everything is fine thank goodness. Just, it was terrifying to hear that over the phone." The thought of his mother, the strong but kind woman who had raised him so lovingly, dying like that. It scared Suro. Thankfully she was given a clean bill of health. "Like I said she's fine now, but damn did she scare me to death." He held a steaming mug in each hand, offering one to Hide. Black, he knew he liked his coffee black and didn't bother offering any cream or sugar. His cup was a slightly lighter shade of brown, having three cream and two sugars added to it. He couldn't take him that strong.
He laughed seeing Rie playing with Hide as he sat beside them, scratching a spot on her back to make her let go of his friend's hand and arch her back up in joy. "She's a willy little thing isn't she?" |

He knew that. She was always so nice, even when he wasn't or didn't deserve it, but that niceness of hers was going to cause her trouble some day. Hide didn't enjoy the thought, but he couldn't imagine someone as generous as that woman having all these good things happen to her without something terrible ruining it all. He thought that he was that terrible thing, so he'd kept his distance once he was old enough to have a real reason not to visit as often, but apparently there were worse things now.
Hide stared at Suro's kitten, watching her play with him even though he wasn't moving his closed fist.
Cancer. Just the mention killed his buzz entirely, made his hand twitch. However, he didn't look up and kept his eyes on the kitten instead. Anger was immediately felt. Why hadn't anyone told him? Why the fuck hadn't Katsuro called? He was pissed, very pissed, but he kept it all in. "Hmm." Hide had replied simply, processing what the man had said, still.
Cancer. What the fuck? There was an inner turmoil that raged in his head, ebbing him to explode, but the part of him that was still bound in the present was dead, expressionless. He was angry with Katsuro, and at himself for being too much of a scared loser to go see her. Though the moment Suro held out the coffee for him to take, he released the tense pressure in his hand and took it.
"You didn't tell me." He muttered, lifting the rim of the mug to his lips so he could blow carefully on the black drink.

i must not fear and i will not bow, | Suro figured that Hide would be mad hearing this news now. He carefully lifted Rie and lie her down on his lap petting her back as she curled up on his legs. "No I didn't, because she wanted to tell you herself. She tried to call you but you never answered. She's fine Hide, she was just trying to let us know that it was a possibility." Suro quickly tried to call Hide but his mother said not let her handle that, but Hide had a bad habit of not answering her calls. And knowing his mother she never left him a message, she hated leaving messages to people. This wasn't something that you just left a casual voice mail to either.
"You should really talk to her, she worries about you." He did wish that he would talk to her. Katsuro fell quiet as he drank his coffee rubbing Rie under her chin to her purring delight. Her tail flicked back and forth, twitching occasionally up or down. "I'm sorry I didn't try to call you about it, but she told me not to and after the tests came back negative I didn't feel the need to. I should have, and I'm sorry."
Even if she had said not to call him Suro still should have done it. Hide had the right to know about it. Suro set his mug on the coffee table running his palm over Rie's back. "I'm just glad she's okay." |

Ridiculous.
It was true that Hide often didn't check his messages, unless he had gotten a call from an unknown number, in which case it often meant he had a new job. However, he also didn't like answering her calls. It wasn't that he just didn't want to talk to her, but he...well, Hide generally hated phone calls anyway. Christ.
"Tch, she should worry about herself." He scoffed, a wry grin in his features before he lifted the rim to his lips and took a small sip of the black coffee. Worried about him? Why the hell would she when she was going to the hospital for check ups involving cancer? Ridiculous.
"It doesn't matter. You don't have to apologize." Hide was still mad, but Katsuro was her son. He deserved to know first to begin with. Hide was just an after thought, and even though the news still affected him in a similar way it did Katsuro he couldn't deny that he deserved to hear such a thing before Hide did.
"Mm." She was fine anyway, regardless of the initial news, and the concern it had probably riddled Suro. If anything he was glad he didn't get her call. He didn't need more stress then what he already had. Why would he want to worry about someone else, when he could hardly eat a decent meal? Of course he kept this to himself. If he hurt Suro's feelings on the matter he'd just feel more shitty than he already did.
Hide took another sip from his coffee, but all the while held the cup close to his features. Even though it was hot outside, the warm cup still made him feel comforted in some form at least.
